Lego Advent Calendar: Day 3

Some may argue that Star Wars has nothing to do with Christmas or the Holiday Season. I disagree. While there is no overt mention of Christmas in the trilogies, Star Wars feels Christmas-y. It belongs on that list of other movies/stories that, while having no genuine connection with the holidays, are still associated with December.

These movies include:

The Wizard of Oz
Harry Potter
The Lord of the Rings movies
The Godfather (1 and 2)
And a few of the Pixar films (The Incredibles, Toy Story, Toy Story 2)

Some of these holiday associations are caused because the movie was released around December, and The Godfather saga is all about family…so that might make sense. For whatever reason, I consider these December things. Maybe it’s because of the magic and spectacle. Maybe it’s because these are the things cable channels shove down our eye-throats this month. But Star Wars is a Christmas movie, whereas Raiders of the Lost Ark is a summer movie because it looks warm and makes me thirsty.

And Hoth is the North Pole.

This is not open for debate.

Today’s item is very cool and complicated. Here’s what the parts look like.

With a little Christmas magic and frustration these turn into…

It’s a SPACE CANNON!

Ka-BOOOOOOM!

The Space Cannon, which I’m not giving a name because if you name everything then you run out of names by your 177th Advent Calendar, took approximately eight hours to build. Or maybe it was three minutes. Point is, it took a while to construct this cosmic weapon and a few of the pieces are so small and light that scientists would classify this matter as a gas.

But look at it! The legs bend! And you can tilt the muzzle! AND IT HAS A CLEAR PIECE.

My love of clear Lego pieces has been recorded in previous calendar write-ups, but if this is the first time reading these, know that I love clear Lego pieces above all other Lego pieces…save for Lego Sausage.

Warren shot Robot Snowman, but it was okay because robots always have a reserve power supply. ALWAYS!

Robot Snowman then shouted, “Launch me! I want to see what dwells beyond the stars!”

Day 3 Rating: 4 out of 5 (Points deducted for the degree of difficulty; points added because it shoots stuff into outer space)

Avengers Candy: Day 3

Another Thor hammer. Well, let’s call this a poor interpretation of Beta Ray Bill’s hammer. (And Beta Ray Bill is the best name of any superhero.) Very curious to see if December 24th will reveal a unique piece of candy (The Infinity Gauntlet!?!?) or it will just be another Thor hammer. Stay tuned for all the excitement!

Dan also makes and sells magic pencils! These laser-etched staffs of power are the perfect gift for everyone except your enemies. Why would you want to give your enemies this much power? You can order the complete set of Power Pencils for just $20, or buy the Stocking Stuffer set of 5 Wish Pencils for just $6! Order soon. Supplies are limited and dwindling fast.
