Before we open the calendar, take twelve minutes and listen to “The Christmas Unicorn” by Sufjan Stevens.
I like Christmas music, and have plenty of traditional songs including about 18 different versions of Silent Night. When an artist puts out a Christmas album, they usually sing the standards everyone expects: Little Drummer Boy, O Holy Night, some version of Jingle Bell Rock, etc.
I prefer when an artist makes an entirely new Christmas song and “The Christmas Unicorn” is a unique beast (both the song and the creature.) I’m not a Sufjan Stevens fan, but this song is one of my favorite new holiday carols. It’s weird, some might even call it annoying, but I like it. I love the way it builds and builds, and my favorite part comes about three minutes in, after the lyrical section is through and the chorus just keeps going and going.
Listen to it and dance in your chair as we discover today’s Lego item!
A burglar!
He’s great! We’ll get to him in a moment. But first, let’s all take a good thirty seconds to admire my ever-growing collection of Lego neckerchiefs.
Today I got three more! That’s six Lego neckerchiefs all together! SIX!
What does Lego expect me to do with all these neckerchiefs? Perhaps an upcoming Lego item will be a neckerchief rack or a long-necked Santa. Or a giraffe? Oh please let there be a giraffe in this calendar!
The burglar also comes with two mugs. He likes to drink.
His shirt is decorated with rope, keys and a lock-pick device. He is up to no good, and I love him.
His name is Donald Mouse.
Becky and Super Snowman aren’t sure what to make of him, though Mickey likes Donald’s affinity for mugs.
The only problem with Donald (And Mickey) is that this calendar is feeling very similar to 2011’s calendar. The cops and robbers thing has been done to death. What horrible event happened in Mr. Lego’s life that he associates the holidays with crime?
And slapping neckerchiefs on old ideas doesn’t make them new.
Perhaps the calendar will switch themes on me, and this Cops vs. Robbers motif is just subterfuge for the Mrs. Claus and her Christmas Giraffe that will hopefully pop out of the calendar.
For now, everyone is getting along but also awkwardly wondering what to do with the extra neckerchiefs.
Then Super Snowman used his super powers and turned the neckerchiefs into Wrist Wreaths.
Super Snowman is so creative!
Day 6 Rating: 3.04 out of 5 (Points added because his shirt is pretty cool. Points subtracted because I’ve been down the Cops and Robbers road before.)
Everyone has tiny capes. Yay!
